AAR Program/CME Committee Report

Continuing medical education is one of the highest priorities of the Alabama Academy of Radiology. This committee is supported by outstanding leadership from our chairman Steven Teplick, MD and the previous chairman Tom Loflin, MD. The Educational/CME Committee is responsible for organizing and coordinating the educational programs of the AAR. The efforts of this committee are directed to enhancing the professional practice of our members to further the AAR mission of improving patient care and service to the medical community. The committee is dedicated to presenting technological advancements, supporting research, and providing exceptional educational meetings to meet the needs of our members and our patients. The AAR frequently surveys our members to learn how best to meet their educational needs.

Educational objectives include discussions concerning the current science of radiological practice, new developments in imaging technology, legal and economic issues, medical ethics, as well as other topics related to the practice of radiology. Local, Regional, National and International Experts in the field of radiology are invited to provide updates and educational programs for the AAR membership. Honorariums are available to support the AAR educational mission. Occasionally, the AAR joins with other professional organizations to provide educational programs such as the Tri-State ACR Chapters Meeting of the Alabama Academy of Radiology, the Radiological Society of Louisiana and the Mississippi Radiological Society held in 2003 and being considered for the fall of 2006. The AAR invites experts from the American College of Radiology, the Medical Association of the State of Alabama and other professional organizations to provide updates and to provide an exchange of information between our organizations.

The AAR CME Programs are planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials Areas and Policies of the Medical Association of the State of Alabama through joint sponsorship of the Medical Society of Montgomery County and the Alabama Academy of Radiology. The Medical Society of Montgomery County is accredited by the Medical Association of the State of Alabama to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
